Ear Wax Removal is Here
Maria Brown Hearing Clinic is proud to announced we now offer ear wax removal services at our Hobart office by appointment only.
Wax is a good thing. It has hydrophobic and anti-microbial properties to protect the ear of infections and water-logging.
Wax only becomes a problem when there is too much of it and our innate skin migration mechanisms cannot push it out naturally.
This is when we normally seek help. Typically when we see our doctor he/she will syringe the wax out; however this can put unnecessary stress and pressure on sensitive ear structures and potentially cause middle ear damage.
At Maria Brown Hearing Clinic, our audiologists utilise ‘precision techniques’ to mechanically excavate wax with specialised utensils.
This technique is used by Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeons and it is their preferred method of wax removal for reasons outlined below.
The advantages of this method are:
- Less risk of damage to functional ear structures, particularly the tympanic membrane
- More comfortable and painless for you, as the patient
- Quick and timely
- Extremely economical compared to seeing an ENT specialist
- Lastly, doctors often will not syringe ears unless the ear canal is completely impacted with wax. Generally this is not an issue for non-hearing-aid wearing people, however for those you that do, we know that even partial wax occlusion can effect hearing aid output – in which case this method is a simple solution to that problem.
This service is only $45 per ear and is available at our Hobart office. Call 1300 797 519 for more information or to make an appointment.
